The Kingdom of Grammar

The “Kingdom of Grammar” is an educational book on grammar recommended for ages 8 to 88. Its focus is on the parts of speech, i.e. nouns, pronouns, adjectives, etc., which come to life in the story. The main character, Tom, is a young teenager who arrives in the Kingdom of Grammar unwittingly. He is soon welcomed by his hosts who: treat him to the Kingdom’s best entertainment, take him to the “Modifiers-R-Us” supermarket to buy adjectives and adverbs, introduce him to the “Be & Do” club where subjects consume purple beverages known as “-ings”, which seem to dictate the actions they indulge in. Tom eventually meets the King and many of his loyal subjects, falls in love, and has other perilous adventures along the way.

The book has three sections:

  • the narrative of Tom’s adventures in the kingdom;
  • a theory section explaining the parts of speech;
  • an exercise section to be completed after each chapter.

It is beautifully illustrated by Vicki Teo.

When I wrote this book I had imagined English-speaking parents reading it to their children, but contrary to expectations, the biggest purchasers of this book so far have been universities and teachers of English as a foreign language. Should you wish to buy my book I’d be interested to understand a little about you and your motivation for buying it.

Please contact me if you’re interested in purchasing this book. The Kingdom of Grammar book cover (A5)

    What a brilliant concept, B.

    Maybe I could use it in the classroom.

    Like you, I’m a bit of a grammar stickler ( you can’t blame the Nazis for everything ).
